Charleston is located close to the central part of South Carolina’s coast around the area between Savannah, Georgia, and Myrtle Beach at the point where Cooper and Ashley Rivers meet as they enter the Atlantic Ocean.

So, if you’re relocating to Charleston whether for a new job, diplomatic missions, business, or other reasons, you want to know a thing or two about the area.

Charleston is an amazing place to live in with its historic culture, character, and the architectural designs needless to mention the friendly people.

It’s one of the busiest ports in South Carolina and has been since the 1600s having played an integral role in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

Most of the single buildings you will find downtown have a historical importance. It is a city where you use the word “coke” to refer to any soft drink- be it Cola, Sprite, Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper or other sugary beverage.

And, if you never want to think of death, hopefully the centuries old graveyards dotted everywhere are going to help take the fear of death away.

Charleston has strict liquor laws that prohibit the sale of liquors on Sundays, so you might want to set yourself a reminder if you have the last bottle in your house and it’s Saturday afternoon. Does that sound weird? It might to begin with, but you will get used to this lifestyle once you have found your new home in Charleston.

Charleston is also growing fast with an estimated 43 people moving to the area every day and the trend shows no signs of slowing down.

Another thing you may want to know if you are moving to Charleston is the kind of homes, architectural designs, and building styles you would find in this area. From single family to town houses and waterfront homes, you will get a home that suits your style, personality, family needs, and other things.

Perhaps, what you will fall in love with are the architectural styles. The Georgian architecture reflects construction styles of between 1700-1780. This style consists of a symmetrical, two story house having a center-entry and a two-room center passage. You will also find the Italianate, Greek Revival, and the Federal architectural styles.

And, what’s a Charleston single house? This is an architectural style of home forming one room wide and with a double-covered porch or what Charlestonese call piazzas. These homes could be several rooms long and a couple of stories high.

If you have just moved in to occupy a new home in Charleston and you want to spruce up the interior, you need to use blinds. Don’t forget that the area can be a bit daunting during the storm season, or seasonably warm during the summer so you want to protect your home with shutters.

There are many places around you can buy your blinds. One long-time local favorite is Best Buy Blinds that provides you with custom window treatments. They perform free in-home consultations to help you determine your best window treatment options.
